Whiplash

Whiplash is an injury caused by a sudden movement of the head, typically it occurs in a automobile collision. The shock of the accident will usually cause a patient to overlook this until they start to feel the pain the next day. An impact from as low as 5mph can cause a whiplash injury. There may be little to no damage to either car but significant damage to your neck.

Whiplash is most commonly caused by a head movement that goes beyond the normal range of motion for the neck. The muscles and ligaments become overstretched and sometimes torn, much like a sprain. the disks between the vertebrae can stretch, bulge and sometimes rupture. Vertebrae themselves can be forced out of alignment causing a reduction in the range of motion.

The new instability of the spine can manifest in headaches; blurred vision; shoulder, arm, and hand pains; dizziness; and reduced mobility of the spine all the way into the lower back. Some of these symptoms may not be immediately apparent and won't show up until the body attempts to adapt to the misaligned spine.

Commonly the whiplash will result in a loss of curve in the neck Proper chiropractic care will restore the curve and alignment to the neck and spine and correct the cause of whiplash symptoms.
